It’s the first room reveal in our new home! It’s the first time since adulthood that I felt like I could own nice things. My frugal self has still found ways to cut costs by taking advantage of sales, finding coupons, and searching on Facebook Marketplace. This room will have everything linked to the exact products purchased as a did not find anything used or reuse anything we already had.
The top 4 things I wanted for the main bathroom:
- ☑️ Skirt toilet
- ☑️ Dark and moody
- ☑️ Not the traditional vanity lighting
- ☑️ Floating vanity
Picks with our contractor:
Flooring:
The powder room tile was purchased from Royal Flooring for those that are local.
Reflex Hexagon Tile
color Night,
Grout color Warm Gray
Vanity:
We decided not to put cabinetry in the powder room. Instead we designed a floating slab of quartz wrapped around the sink. The front of the vanity is called an apron. It is 12″ to make sure the underside of the sink is covered. We purchased from Fox Counter Tops for those that are local.
Quartz
color Cascade
Mirrors:
I wanted a mirror that spanned from the top of the vanity to the ceiling. I was going for frameless but the contractor, for installation purposes, asked to have a thin frame around it.
Plumbing:
The plumbing was picked through Plumbing Supply and we went with a matte black. All the faucets in our home have a hose that detaches which is amazing for cleaning. This was a pleasant surprise as we chose to go budget friendly on the plumbing and picked the least expensive black faucet.
One thing that was insanely priced was the toilets. We wanted to order a skirt toilet which was going to cost us about $500 and then they were going to charge us separately for the soft close toilet seat and a separate expense for the black lever. We were very fortunate that our contractor entertained the idea of us bringing in our own toilets. He asked the plumber if he would be willing to install a toilet supplied by the client and he agreed to do it. With that we found a skirt toilet with a soft close lid at Home Depot. I found the least expensive black leveler at Home Depot as well and the plumber switch those out for us.
Paint:
The entire powder room, from the ceiling to the baseboards, is painted Black Bean by Sherwin Williams. It was highly recommended by the painters to use flat paint in this room because everything would be the same color. This is the only place I allowed flat paint. Otherwise I am very against it. If you know, you know.
Our own picks:
Lighting:
I found the perfect chandelier right away and just needed to find the right bulb. I wanted the lighting in this room to be moody. My first bulb pick I loved, but I knew my elders would complain. It was a very amber light and 10watt. This light bulb had it’s own art to it that matched my soap dispenser. I decided after a few days of having the lights up that I would get light bulbs less amber in color and a wattage of 15. I am still very pleased with the turn out!

The foam soap dispenser is so beautiful but it only came with a chrome pump. I did find a perfect fit from Walmart that I was able to swap the chrome for gold. The hand towels were from the @Home store. They were a perfect price and fit, but when it came time to hang them that I wished they had a loop. I found a seller on Etsy that sells the loop separately. I purchased from her and sewed them on myself. The most perfect towel hook I found wasn’t so perfect once I found out it was HUGE so I had to return it. I could not find that perfect fit as a towel hook so I went for a drawer knob from hobby lobby and it worked great.
The amount of trial and error that went into putting a plant together was ridiculous. Im sure no one else would have spent as much time on it as I did. I purchased these final faux fillers from the @Home store. The peach colored blossoms were found on the floor and given to me for free beings they had broken off which ever faux plant they originally came with (no one knew).
This stool has storage and that’s what won me over. I wanted a nice stool so kids could reach the sink but then to have storage for toilet paper and extra hand towels was a bonus! I did have to add felt pads to the bottom for it to slide easily and not make an awful noise with movement.
The motion sensor on this toilet paper roll is awesome. It adds an extra source of light for my “Moody” bathroom and I purposely put the trash can under it so there was a light source for others to find it. My sister made a great point that seeing into the trash at someone else’s house especially if there are feminine products involved is kind of gross. She kindly recommended a lid on the trash. I had to agree after she made that point, so I purchased a soft close covered trash.
The photo in this frame is actually Rob and I. I found a preset that made it darker and then ordered an 8×10 on Shutterfly.
I got excited for next Christmas and ordered this Rudolph print for next year to put in the frame during the holiday season. Welp we are snowballing now, because you should also know that I want to order ceramic trees to replace the floral arrangement here next Christmas, get a Christmas hand towel, and I will use red foam soap instead of the orange I have now.
