Forgoing daycare during the work week my husband and I asked my littlest sister to be our baby’s nanny. This was decided early on in our pregnancy and we have been figuring out the schedule and what my sister will need at her house ever since. My sister is a labor/delivery nurse that works the night shift three days a week. She has been a nanny for two families in the past so we knew she would be great! We agreed to have Briar go to her house so we do not interrupt anything my sister may need done at home such as cooking and cleaning. During our pregnancy we collected free and borrowed baby items to take to her house. She has a pack n’ play for a crib, a bouncer seat, floor mat, stroller, and car seat base. Obviously we did not want her house to be taken over with baby stuff so we looked for everything to be folded up and stored away. Other than the big items there are many small things babies need throughout the day so we created the “Nanny Bag.” We already know there are a few days my mom will have to watch Briar in October so we wanted a system that could easily be transported from house to house.
When Briar was born I started filling the suitcase that we would use as the “Nanny Bag.” Turns out this was handy anytime someone watched Briar. My sister was married in August and because Rob and I would be busy with the wedding events we asked my in-laws to watch our baby. It was so nice; all we had to do was grab the suitcase filled with baby stuff and take it to their house. The “Nanny Bag” again came in handy when the Derecho storm passed through Iowa and we all lost power for three days. My mom’s house was the first to get power back so we stayed the night at her home. She already had a crib so we just grabbed the suitcase again and we had all we needed. I also took the bag to my other sister’s house while she watched Briar for a few hours too. Seriously having this pre-packed bag has been so helpful!
Now that I am officially going back to work next week I decided to organize the suitcase. This will help me keep track of refills and make sure anything taken from the bag gets put back. With that comes this blog post because I would highly recommend having a bag like this ready to go. It may require you to buy duplicates of things so you do not have to go into the bag while at home but it is worth it. The Olaf suitcase we have is not for sale online but I linked some other CUTE kid carry ons below.
To organize all the products inside I purchased this travel case set from Amazon and this label maker from Target. The labels did not stick great to the material so I did super glue each end of the labels to cases. (update I ended up using my sister’s Cameo to label the bags several months later)
