I started GetDressedMidwest on LTK (once known as Liketoknow.it) in 2019. My sister had followed many different influencers at that time and discovered the App. She showed it to me and I was immediately impressed. You can find outfits for all occasions, find new makeup, and gift ideas for the holidays. The platform has grown even more from home decor, to men’s fashion, to motherhood, and anything lifestyle. I was only a shopper on the app for a long time while my sister pursued creatorship on the platform. I was dubbed her photographer once she was accepted. The more I photographed her, the more I became interested in LTK as a creator aswell. I asked my sister about the application process and she said the first step was to build something that shows the team you are going to be active on the platform and pull in an audience. My steps 1-6 below.
Getting Started
Pick your niche, and no you do not have to stick to this forever but it does make the beginning easier until you are ready to branch out. LTK can be for anyone sharing fashion, home decor, motherhood, lifestyle, or in my sister’s case, she changed her handle to traveling tips, tricks, and purchases. You can narrow it down even further in the beginning to make it easier on yourself. I know one influencer started out only doing workwear, but has since expanded her niche to all things lifestyle.
You know your niche, now what’s your handle? This is the name you choose to represent you. Many just use their own name, others, like me, try a creative title. Whichever you choose you will want it to match your other social channels so people can find you on the app and on social media searching that name.
How To Shop the LTK App
Choose your social platforms and I highly recommend a website! My best advice is to have a website you can direct people to on top of having your LTK page. Especially in the beginning when you are trying to impress the team through your application process. WordPress.com is free but WordPress.org is compatible with the LTK widgets. I started with wordpress.com not realizing this and although I was able to export some of my blog material to wordpress.org I do not recommend this. WordPress.org does need a host site so I chose to use bluehost.com.
There are free themes that come with wordpress.org. They also have themes you can purchase on there as well. With LTK being what it is and very popular there are companies that have created themes around fashion blogging outside of wordpress. You can purchase these and import. I am not tech savvy so it would be unwise for me to try and explain some of these terms above. I have linked above words to further explain themselves. I am linking a blog post from Empress themes (one of the companies that builds themes around LTK) about starting a wordpress website.
As far as socials these are going to be your biggest drivers to your website and your LTK page. It is best practice to post frequently on the social platforms to beat the algorithms and build relationships with your audience and other LTK influencers.
Start posting! You will not be qualified for LTK until they have something worth viewing. They want to see that you are consistent on the social site and they want to see the content and it’s quality. I chose fashion from the start. I wore new clothes to work taking a photo of the outfit each morning. Anytime I went out with friends or family I would snap a picture. You can go to Target or Walmart and take photos of your try on sessions. Currently there is a large interest in Reels on Instagram and TikTok. You can video yourself shopping for an outfit. You can video yourself trying on clothes. You can video your makeup routine, hair routine and so on. Make sure you are giving yourself time to build up content. I applied too early and never heard back. After that I continued to post and waited another couple of months. I applied for a second time and was accepted.

Once you are on the LTK platform get the LTK Product Link (link ninja) on your computer bookmark and get the LTK creator app on your phone. If you followed my advice and built a website go ahead and get the LTK Widget on a blog page and it will automatically feed the images on your LTK to your website like this.

I have had to work with many customer service representatives and I have done my fair share of Youtube searches on “How To’s” LTK has strategy tips and goal planning on their website to help get you started and guide your content.
